Drones at AFC

Drones are great and fun tools, but they pose significant safety issues at the AFC. With all the flying (airplane, ultralight, sky diving, and hot air balloon) going on, the crowds of people, and some of the the special activities we have planned, drone flying can instantly create a major catastrophy if a high speed, ground, or mid air collision occurs to people, flying aircraft, or property.

The AFC will only allow drone operations under the following conditions:

1) Express permission from the Manager of Motown Airport, Mo Sheldon, is required to operate your drone during the AFC.

2) That you have a FAA Pilot Certificate for the Small UAS Rule (Part 107) and are knowledgeable of all regulations pertaining to drone operations.

3) That you follow all FAA guidelines and rules to operate your drone.

4) That you communicate with the AFC Flight Safety volunteers before each and every flight.

5) That you have working aviation and FRS radios to hear any communications from aircraft traffic and AFC Flight Safety volunteers.

6) That you be an expert drone operator.

7) That you recognize the risks of flying a drone in a complex, multi-variant, constantly moving, 3 dimensional environment.
